Inducible expression of human papillomavirus-16 L1 capsomeres in the plastomes of Nicotiana tabacum: Transplastomic plants develop normal flowers and pollen

Sara Latif et al.

Summary: This study successfully expressed the HPV-16 L1 gene in tobacco chloroplasts, induced L1 protein production using an ethanol-inducible promoter, and purified the protein. The transplastomic tobacco plants developed normally, produced viable seeds and pollen, confirming the use of inducible expression as a safe approach for expressing transgenes.

Plant-made dengue virus-like particles produced by co-expression of structural and non-structural proteins induce a humoral immune response in mice

Daniel Ponndorf et al.

Summary: This study describes the production of DENV VLPs in Nicotiana benthamiana using transient expression, resulting in VLPs that were comparable in appearance and size to those produced in mammalian cells. Immunogenicity assays in BALB/c mice showed that plant-made DENV1-SP + NSP VLPs led to a higher antibody response compared to other vaccine candidates.
