Dynamic network connectivity influences the spread of a sub-lineage of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus

Dennis N. Makau et al.

Summary: Swine production in the United States is greatly influenced by dynamic farm contacts through animal movements, which increases the risk of disease occurrence. Primary and secondary contacts with L1A-positive farms significantly increase the likelihood of L1A occurrence on a farm, while an increase in outgoing shipments also raises the risk of L1A occurrence. Additionally, implementing control measures in sow farms, such as vaccines and virus inoculation, can reduce the risk of L1A occurrence in downstream farms.
