Effects of silver nanoparticles prenatal exposure on rat offspring development

Aline A. Becaro et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of prenatal exposure to silver nanoparticles on pregnancy outcomes of dams and postnatal development of their offspring. The results indicate that exposure to AgNP during embryonic development can compromise postnatal development, especially in terms of reproductive features, in neonatal rats.

Polysaccharide-based skin scaffolds with enhanced mechanical compatibility with native human skin

Deepika Malhotra et al.

Summary: A custom-made technique was reported to synthesize process-convenient skin scaffolds by tuning the mechanical properties of hydrogels based on naturally occurring polysaccharides to match rheological properties of native human skins. Mechanical parameters were studied using oscillatory shear rheology, showing significant findings on the influence of kappa-carrageenan concentration on the elastic modulus and intercycle strain-softening behavior of the hydrogels. Diffusion experiments on caffeine permeation attributes demonstrated improved barrier features with increasing kappa-carrageenan concentration, achieving comparable penetration features with commercial 3D skin models.

Candidate Formulations for a Sustainable Lipstick Supplemented with Vitamin D3: Effects of Wax Type and Concentration on Material Properties

Sharadwata Pan et al.

Summary: This study explores the suitability of seven formulations for developing a green commercial lipstick model with vitamin D3, finding that the type of wax used significantly influences the lipstick characteristics. The combination of berry wax, candelilla wax, and carnauba wax is recommended as an effective base formulation for a lipstick supplemented with vitamin D3.

Buffered λ-DNA solutions at high shear rates

H. Dakhil et al.

Summary: The study investigated buffered aqueous solutions of deoxyribonucleic acid isolated from bacteriophage lambda (lambda-DNA) at shear rates up to 10(5) s(-1) using a narrow-gap rheometer. The results showed that at high shear rates, viscosity levels off into an infinite-shear viscosity plateau. Additionally, normal-stress differences exhibited a power-law dependence on the shear rate close to previous findings at lower shear rates, but a stepwise change was observed beyond 10(4) s(-1) shear rates.

Facet-dependent gold nanocrystals for effective photothermal killing of bacteria

Sibidou Yougbare et al.

Summary: Gold-based plasmonic nanocrystals, specifically gold nanobipyramids with (111) plane, showed higher photothermal performance compared to gold nanorods with (200) plane in noninvasive photothermal therapy, as demonstrated by experimental studies and density function theory (DFT) simulations. Water desorption energy on the Au(111) surface was found to be lower than on the Au(100) surface, indicating easier desorption for photothermal heating. Additionally, AuNBPs with (111) plane exhibited higher efficiency in photothermal therapy against Escherichia coli (E. coli) under near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation compared to AuNRs.
