Summary: An optimized single cell lipid screening procedure for Nannochloropsis oceanica has been developed in this study, with different staining conditions identified for neutral lipids in exponentially growing cultures and lipid-overproducing cultures. The use of DMSO for cell permeabilization and varying concentrations of BODIPY for staining were highlighted, along with the effects on cell viability, paving the way for a quantitative prediction of cellular neutral lipids.
