Summary: The cultivated potato is an important food crop globally and in developing countries, but climate change poses a threat to its yields as it becomes hotter and drier in some regions. Besides its shallow root system, other morphophysiological features of the potato are likely contributing to its drought susceptibility. Research explores traits associated with drought tolerance in potatoes, such as small canopies, open stem-type canopies, and densely rooted cultivars, which have been overlooked in the past.
