Combustion of poultry litter and mixture of poultry litter with woodchips in a fixed bed lab-scale batch reactor

Giannis Katsaros et al.

Summary: Experiments on the combustion behavior of three different biomass fuels revealed variations in the release of N gaseous species, ash forming elements, and aerosol emissions. Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) was predominant in softwood pellet combustion, while ammonia (NH3) showed the highest concentration in poultry litter and its blend combustion. Ash forming elements such as potassium and sodium had release rates ranging from 15-50% and 20-37% respectively, with chlorine displaying very high release rates exceeding 85% for all tested fuels.

Enhanced heat transfer performance for multi-tube heat exchangers with various tube arrangements

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: Numerical evaluations were conducted on multi-tube heat exchangers with transverse corrugated tubes and helically corrugated tubes, revealing that spiral flows have little effect on thermal efficiency but can significantly inhibit flow resistance. Among the cases studied, the multi-tube heat exchanger with staggered tube arrangement of helically corrugated tube showed the best overall performance.

Design of a heat recovery unit using exhaust gases for energy savings in an absorption air conditioning unit

Mostafa El-Shafie et al.

Summary: The study focuses on utilizing waste heat from high-temperature flue gases to design a heat exchanger for optimal energy utilization and reduce natural gas consumption. Analyzing the thermodynamic properties of exhaust gases based on chemical composition and estimating the properties of solutions in the absorption chiller using heat and mass balance equations. The heat exchanger design specification was determined for different tube diameters using copper and steel materials, with a compact direct heat exchanger showing the best performance.
