Mechanisms of drug solubilization by polar lipids in biorelevant media

Vladimir Katev et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish the relationship between the molecular structure of polar lipids and drug solubilization in biorelevant media. The findings showed that mixed colloidal aggregates formed by polar lipids significantly enhance drug solubilization, with long chain unsaturated polar lipids demonstrating the best results. Additionally, the hydrophilic head group type also plays a crucial role in determining the drug solubilization enhancement.

Summary: This study re-examined the drug absorption from lipid-based formulations using an in vitro model, revealing that supersaturation is a significant driver of drug absorption. The impact of PPIs on drug absorption was found to be formulation-specific.

In vitro lipolysis and physicochemical characterization of unconventional star anise oil towards the development of new lipid-based drug delivery systems

Jannet Kamoun et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the unconventional Chinese star anise whole seedpod oil has the potential to be used as a multifunctional lipid excipient resistant to digestion. It exhibits high resistance to gastrointestinal lipolysis and possesses moderate antioxidant and antihypertensive activities, making it a promising candidate for new lipid formulations.
