Ethanol-induced coacervation in aqueous gelatin solution for constructing nanospheres and networks: Morphology, dynamics and thermal sensitivity

Ying Pei et al.

Summary: Ethanol was used to induce coacervation in gelatin aqueous solutions, resulting in different morphologies of gelatin coacervates depending on gelatin concentration and ethanol temperature. High-concentration gelatin solutions formed network morphologies when treated with lower temperature ethanol, while low concentration solutions formed nanosphere assemblies with ethanol near room temperature. The size and morphology of coacervates could be adjusted by changing the volume ratio and temperature.

Sterilization of Semiconductive Nanomaterials: The Case of Water-Suspended Poly-3-Hexylthiophene Nanoparticles

Filippo Monti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of sterilizing P3HT-NPs water suspension with ionizing radiation, finding that different radiation sources have minimal impact on the characteristics of NPs, but different radiation doses and dose rates can affect their physicochemical properties. An absorbed dose of 10 kGy is already sufficient for effective sterilization of the colloidal suspension.

In Vivo Quantification of Nanoparticle Association with Immune Cell Subsets in Blood

Yih Rue Ong et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles show promise for drug delivery, but their rapid clearance by immune cells in blood poses a challenge. In vivo studies reveal a significant role of neutrophils in nanoparticle binding, contrary to ex vivo findings. The increase in circulating neutrophils and decrease in monocytes after intravenous injection affect the overall association of nanoparticles with immune cells.

3D printed colloidal biomaterials based on photo-reactive gelatin nanoparticles

Mani Diba et al.

Summary: This study presents the 3D printing of novel biomaterial constructs with shape memory behavior using photo-reactive gelatin nanoparticles as colloidal building blocks. The UV-induced covalent interparticle crosslinks significantly enhance the mechanical properties of printed constructs and provide remarkable control over swelling, degradation, and biomolecule release behavior. These novel colloidal inks show great potential to serve as bio-inks for 3D printing of biomaterials with shape-morphing features in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications.

Gelatin solution pH and incubation time influences the size of the nanoparticles engineered by desolvation

Bhavani Prasad Vinjamuri et al.

Summary: Engineering gelatin nanoparticles (GNPs) through the desolvation process heavily depends on factors such as gelatin solution pH adjustment and incubation time, which significantly affect the size and size distribution of GNPs. Two-step desolvation process leads to smaller and more monodisperse GNPs compared to one-step desolvation.
