Magnetic biochars have lower adsorption but higher separation effectiveness for Cd2+ from aqueous solution compared to nonmagnetic biochars

Fei Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, magnetic and nonmagnetic biochars were compared for their adsorption capabilities, revealing that magnetization reduced the adsorption capacities due to decreased importance of cation-exchange and C pi-coordination in the biochars. This reduction in adsorption capacity suggests that conventional biochar may be more effective in adsorbing Cd2+ than magnetized biochar. Further research on magnetic biochars as sustainable alternatives for remediation of Cd-contaminated environments is recommended.

Progress in microwave pyrolysis conversion of agricultural waste to value-added biofuels: A batch to continuous approach

Shengbo Ge et al.

Summary: Microwave pyrolysis is a promising technique for converting agricultural wastes into biofuels. However, challenges remain in continuous production and there is a need for further research in microwave heating, product yield, and reactor design. Despite these challenges, microwave valorization offers environmental and economic benefits as an alternative energy generation route.

Effect of carbonization methods on the properties of tea waste biochars and their application in tetracycline removal from aqueous solutions

Bin Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of different carbonation methods on the properties and adsorption performance of biochars, finding that the combination of hydrothermal treatment with KHCO3 activation significantly increases the surface area and pore structure of biochar. In terms of adsorbing tetracycline, KHCO3-activated BCs exhibited higher adsorption capacity, with the dominant mechanisms being pore-filling effect and pi - pi interactions.

Energy Harvesting/Storage and Environmental Remediation via Hot Drinks Wastes

Hamidreza Parsimehr et al.

Summary: Hot drinks wastes, such as coffee grounds and tea wastes, have the potential to provide energy and chemical substances, as well as absorb hazardous materials to protect the environment. These wastes are widely used to produce and store green energies, while also absorbing hazardous materials, achieving a dual purpose of energy production and environmental protection.

Adsorptive removal of COD from produced water using tea waste biochar

Hifsa Khurshid et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of tea waste biochar as an adsorbent for oxidizable organic contaminants in produced water. The combined modified biochar showed higher efficiency in COD removal, with Langmuir adsorption model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model being the most suitable for describing the process, achieving a maximum COD removal efficiency of 95.5%.
