Impact of reducing alcohol consumption through price-based policies on cancer incidence in Germany 2020-50-a simulation study

Thomas Gredner et al.

Summary: In Germany, implementing price-based policies to reduce alcohol consumption could potentially prevent a significant number of alcohol-related cancer cases. Of the various scenarios examined, a 100% price increase on alcoholic beverages was estimated to be the most effective, preventing approximately 213,000 (4.1%) preventable alcohol-related cancer cases. This was followed by 5-yearly 25% price increases (2.8%) and a volumetric price increase based on beverage-specific alcohol content (1.9%).

The association between testosterone, estradiol and their ratio and mortality among US men

Summary: The study suggests a significant association between low testosterone levels and male mortality, while abnormal estradiol levels showed no association with mortality. The testosterone to estradiol ratio was found to be related to cardiovascular disease-related mortality.

Systemic combining inflammatory score (SCIS): a new score for prediction of oncologic outcomes in patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive urothelial bladder cancer

Matteo Ferro et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a score using serum inflammatory variables to better predict cancer outcomes in high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer patients. Results showed that a higher systemic combined inflammatory score was independently predictive of recurrence, cancer-specific mortality, and overall mortality, but not associated with progression.

Liquid Biopsy Biomarkers in Urine: A Route towards Molecular Diagnosis and Personalized Medicine of Bladder Cancer

Matteo Ferro et al.

Summary: Bladder cancer is characterized by high incidence and recurrence rates, as well as genomic instability and elevated mutation degree. Current diagnosis, prognosis and disease surveillance often involve cystoscopy combined with cytology, which may cause side effects and economic burden. Liquid biopsy, a promising tool investigated over the last decade, is essential for non-invasive, sensitive, fast and inexpensive biomarkers for clinical management of BC patients. Liquid biopsy may play a key role in precision medicine for treatment selection and real-time monitoring of therapeutic effects, with various urinary biomarkers proposed for BC detection, prognosis, surveillance and response to therapy.

Mediterranean Diet as an Antioxidant: The Impact on Metabolic Health and Overall Wellbeing

Katherina V. Gantenbein et al.

Summary: Healthy nutrition, especially the Mediterranean diet, rich in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant components, helps reduce the incidence of obesity, diabetes, and other non-communicable diseases. The MD not only benefits physical health but also improves reproductive health, reduces the risk of neurodegenerative diseases, and provides protection against mental health issues.
