Prognostic Value of Tumor Proportion Score in Salivary Gland Carcinoma

Fumihiko Sato et al.

Summary: Limited information is available about the role of PD-L1 expression and CD8(+)TIL density in the tumor immune microenvironment of salivary gland carcinoma (SGC) patients. This study aimed to evaluate the association between patient prognosis and PD-L1 expression, CD8(+)TIL density, and other immune-related parameters. The results suggest that TPS may be a useful prognostic biomarker for SGC patients undergoing definitive surgery.

The tumor immune contexture of salivary duct carcinoma

Gustavo Schvartsman et al.

Summary: Salivary duct carcinoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy with promising targetable alterations found through biomarker studies. This study analyzed tumor and immune biomarkers in SDC patients and found no clinically significant association between biomarkers and survival outcomes. The results suggest additional treatment options and a different immune profile in SDC compared to other subtypes.

Progress and Challenges of Predictive Biomarkers for Immune Checkpoint Blockade

Yanna Lei et al.

Summary: Over the past decade, immune checkpoint blockade therapy has significantly improved patient survival in oncology, but the response rates remain unsatisfactory and predictive biomarkers for treatment efficacy are lacking. Further research is needed to identify more accurate biomarkers to enhance the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors therapy.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary glands: A French Network of Rare Head and Neck Tumors (REFCOR) prospective study of 292 cases

Laurie Saloner Dahan et al.

Summary: This study described the characteristics of the largest European study on MEC of salivary glands and identified prognostic factors for overall and disease-free survival. The main prognostic factors included tumor grade, age, disease stage, and presence of diabetes. Advanced clinical stage, high-grade tumor, older age, inability to undergo complete surgical resection, and diabetes were found to have significant negative impacts on patient outcomes.

The PD-L1/PD-1 Axis Blocks Neutrophil Cytotoxicity in Cancer

Olga Yajuk et al.

Summary: The PD-L1/PD-1 axis plays a crucial role in mediating immune tolerance and promoting tumor growth by inhibiting anti-tumor immunity. Blocking this axis has been shown to help maintain the anti-tumor functions of the adaptive immune system. Neutrophils consist of distinct subpopulations with either pro- or anti-tumor properties, and PD-L1 expression in neutrophils can either promote or inhibit tumor growth.
