Biodegradation of graphene materials catalyzed by human eosinophil peroxidase

Rajendra Kurapati et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrated the biodegradation of graphene oxide (GO) by recombinant eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) enzyme and compared the degradation capability on three different GO samples with varying oxygen functional groups. Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy provided clear evidence for the biodegradation process. These findings enhance our understanding of the biodegradability of graphene materials and can guide the design of future biomedical products based on carbon nanomaterials.
