Mechanosensation and Mechanotransduction by Lymphatic Endothelial Cells Act as Important Regulators of Lymphatic Development and Function

Laszlo Balint et al.

Summary: Research has shown that mechanical forces play a crucial role in determining the fate and alignment of lymphatic endothelial cells, yet the mechanosignaling pathways involved remain poorly understood. Understanding these mechanisms may provide deeper insights into the pathophysiology of diseases associated with impaired lymphatic function and potentially lead to the discovery of new therapeutic targets for these conditions.

Targeting inflammation in atherosclerosis - from experimental insights to the clinic

Oliver Soehnlein et al.

Summary: Inflammation plays a substantial role in atherosclerosis and targeting inflammatory pathways could provide a promising new avenue to prevent and treat the disease. Clinical studies have shown that modulation of inflammation can help prevent the clinical complications of atherosclerosis. Refining strategies for combatting inflammation in the disease is crucial for further progress in managing atherosclerotic risk.

MHC Class II Antigen Presentation by Lymphatic Endothelial Cells in Tumors Promotes Intratumoral Regulatory T cell-Suppressive Functions AC

Anastasia O. Gkountidi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that tumoral lymphatic endothelial cells (LEC) can promote tumor growth by upregulating MHC class II and antigen-processing machinery, leading to Treg expansion and suppression of effector T-cell infiltration. Lack of MHC class II expression in LECs impairs tumor growth, increases effector T-cell infiltration, and alters Treg-suppressive functions. Antigen presentation by LECs locally in the tumor microenvironment is crucial for promoting Treg-mediated immunosuppression.

Lymph-Derived Neutrophils Primarily Locate to the Subcapsular and Medullary Sinuses in Resting and Inflamed Lymph Nodes

Jenny de Castro Pinho et al.

Summary: Neutrophils primarily localize in the subcapsular and medullary sinuses of lymph nodes, with resting and in vitro-activated neutrophils showing random migration within the medulla. Co-injected dendritic cells facilitate the entry of resting neutrophils into the lymph node parenchyma via the subcapsular sinus, while in vivo-activated adoptively transferred neutrophils migrate into the interfollicular areas of the lymph node.

Lymphatic Trafficking in the Eye: Modulation of Lymphatic Trafficking to Promote Corneal Transplant Survival

Yanhong Hou et al.

Summary: Lymphangiogenesis in the cornea is a critical risk factor for allograft rejection, and modulating lymphatic trafficking may promote corneal graft survival. Inhibition of lymphangiogenesis or regression of existing lymphatic vessels has been shown to improve transplant survival. Blocking antigen presenting cell trafficking to lymph nodes can also enhance allograft survival in high-risk eyes.
