A circadian clock in a nonphotosynthetic prokaryote

Zheng Eelderink-Chen et al.

Summary: Circadian clocks are widespread in nature, but have been surprisingly unexplored in nonphotosynthetic bacteria. Studies on Bacillus subtilis have shown that these bacteria exhibit properties similar to canonical circadian clocks, suggesting potential applications in biomedicine, ecology, and industrial processes.

Oscillating and stable genome topologies underlie hepatic physiological rhythms during the circadian cycle

Jerome Mermet et al.

Summary: The study reveals that both clock-controlled and clock-independent chromatin topology play a role in regulating the rhythmic physiology of the liver in mice. Dynamic and static DNA contacts contribute to the circadian transcription of liver physiology.

Mitochondrial autophagy and cell survival is regulated by the circadian Clock gene in cardiac myocytes during ischemic stress

Inna Rabinovich-Nikitin et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the CLOCK gene transcriptionally coordinates mitochondrial quality control mechanisms in cardiac myocytes, regulating an adaptive stress response crucial for cell survival. Restoring CLOCK activity may be beneficial in reducing cardiac injury in individuals with disrupted circadian rhythms.

The liver-clock coordinates rhythmicity of peripheral tissues in response to feeding

Gal Manella et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the hierarchy between the central and peripheral clocks in mammals has been established, and explores the disparities in responses of peripheral clocks using altered feeding paradigms and liver-clock mutant mice. Despite its significant role in nutrient processing, disruption of the liver-clock does not affect the rhythmicity of other peripheral tissues.
