Cancer Statistics, 2021

Rebecca L. Siegel et al.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Completion of radical hysterectomy does not improve survival of patients with cervical cancer and intraoperatively detected lymph node involvement: ABRAX international retrospective cohort study

D. Cibula et al.

Summary: This study indicated that completing radical hysterectomy does not improve survival in cervical cancer patients with intraoperative lymph node involvement, regardless of tumor size or histological type. Abandoning uterine radical procedures and referring the patient for definitive chemoradiation may be a more appropriate choice.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Prediction of Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Korea, 2021

Kyu-Won Jung et al.

Summary: It is projected that in 2021, there will be 259,999 new cases of cancer and 81,567 cancer deaths in Korea. Lung cancer is expected to be the most common cancer site, followed by thyroid, colon and rectum, breast, and stomach cancers. These five cancers are predicted to represent half of Korea's overall cancer burden.

Comparison between laparoscopic and abdominal radical hysterectomy for stage IB1 and tumor size < 2 cm cervical cancer with visible or invisible tumors: a multicentre retrospective study

Pengfei Li et al.

Summary: Among patients with stage IB1 and tumor size <2 cm, whether the tumor is visible or not, the oncological outcomes of laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (LRH) and abdominal radical hysterectomy (ARH) among cervical cancer patients are comparable.
