Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

COCH predicts survival and adjuvant TACE response in patients with HCC

Chen Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that the expression level of COCH is related to the prognosis and recurrence of HCC patients, with lower expression levels associated with reduced early recurrence rates when treated with TACE. However, high COCH expression patients did not see a difference in recurrence rates with or without adjuvant TACE.

Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effect of Adjuvant Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization Based on Ki67 After Hepatocellular Carcinoma Surgery

Yu-Fei Zhao et al.

Summary: For patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and high expression of Ki67 (Ki67 >= 20%), adjuvant hepatic artery chemoembolization after radical liver tumor resection effectively reduced the probability of tumor recurrence after surgery and prolonged the overall survival of patients. High Ki67 expression during the post-operative follow-up evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma patients is an indicator for adjuvant TACE therapy.

Clinical Benefit of Antiviral Agents for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients With Low Preoperative HBV-DNA Loads Undergoing Curative Resection: A Meta-Analysis

Kai-Xuan Liu et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis showed that antiviral therapy prophylaxis in patients with low preoperative HBV-DNA levels undergoing curative resection significantly reduced the rate of HBV reactivation and improved overall survival. However, the impact on postoperative ALT levels on the 30th day was not statistically significant.

Farshid Fathi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the changes in pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in 15 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients before and after liver resection (LR), showing that IL-6 and TNF-alpha are critical for liver regeneration. Other cytokines showed no significant changes before and after LR.
