Predictors of early postoperative epileptic seizures after awake surgery in supratentorial diffuse gliomas

Marc Zanello et al.

Summary: Functional-based resection under awake conditions has a low rate of intraoperative and early postoperative seizures, with good seizure outcomes at 6 months and 2 years postoperatively. Factors like treatment time of at least 3 months postoperatively, frontal lobe involvement, intraoperative current intensity, and supratotal resection are independently associated with early postoperative seizures.

Association of supratotal resection with progression-free survival, malignant transformation, and overall survival in lower-grade gliomas

Marco Rossi et al.

Summary: The study found that supratotal resection is strongly associated with good oncological outcomes in molecularly defined lower-grade gliomas, regardless of molecular subtypes and grading.

What effects does awake craniotomy have on functional and survival outcomes for glioblastoma patients?

Anne Clavreul et al.

Summary: The study found that complete resection was achieved in 61% of GB patients in critical locations after awake craniotomy, with more than half of asymptomatic patients remaining symptom-free three months post-surgery and one third of symptomatic patients showing improvements in language functions. Patients with preoperative deficits or incomplete resection had a higher risk of postoperative deficits, and the presence of postoperative deficits was an independent predictive factor for shorter progression-free survival.

Evidence-based recommendations on categories for extent of resection in diffuse glioma

Philipp Karschnia et al.

Summary: Surgical resection is the standard treatment for diffuse glioma, and the extent of tumor resection is associated with prognosis. Expert recommendations on different categories for extent of resection were developed based on evidence to standardize terminology. These categories may serve as a stratification factor for future clinical trials.

Summary: The study confirms that intraoperative B-mode ultrasound guided surgery leads to more frequent complete resection without harming patients, which helps to maximize the extent of glioblastoma resection.
