Functional connectome-wide associations of schizophrenia polygenic risk

Hengyi Cao et al.

Summary: This study identified a significant negative correlation between schizophrenia polygenic risk scores and functional connectivity in specific brain networks, across multiple fMRI paradigms. Additionally, patients with schizophrenia exhibited reduced connectivity in the identified network, which was also correlated with cognitive ability. These findings highlight the potential role of disrupted integration of sensori-cognitive information as a genetic effect contributing to the pathogenesis of schizophrenia.

A multivariate pattern analysis of resting-state functional MRI data in Naive and chronic betel quid chewers

Zeqiang Linli et al.

Summary: Betel quid (BQ) is the fourth most commonly consumed psychoactive substance in the world, but studies on the neurophysiological mechanism of BQ addiction are lacking. Individuals dependent on BQ showed extensive dysconnectivity in brain networks associated with high-order brain functions during acute chewing, while chronic effects were predominately located in networks related to compulsive drug use. Simultaneously quantifying both chronic and acute effects of BQ exposure provides insights into neural mechanisms of BQ dependence.

Decreased integration of the frontoparietal network during a working memory task in major depressive disorder

Wenjian Tan et al.

Summary: This study found that global efficiency of the frontoparietal network is reduced in major depressive disorder, affecting working memory performance. The relationship is more pronounced at lower levels of symptom burden, suggesting multiple pathways to cognitive deficits in severe major depressive disorder. Machine learning can effectively discriminate patients from controls based on connectomic metrics.

Altered Cerebro-Cerebellar Dynamic Functional Connectivity in Alcohol Use Disorder: a Resting-State fMRI Study

Majd Abdallah et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant differences in functional connectivity (FC) between the cerebellum and major brain networks in individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) compared to controls. specifically in the frontoparietal executive control and ventral attention networks. AUD patients showed less flexibility and greater integration in the cerebellum. Overall, the findings suggest alterations in dynamic FC within cerebro-cerebellar networks in AUD, providing insights into the development and maintenance of the disorder and the role of the cerebellum in addiction.

Childhood trauma is linked to decreased temporal stability of functional brain networks in young adults

Danqing Huang et al.

Summary: This study found that childhood trauma is associated with increased global brain network switching rates in young adults, with effects mainly observed in specific brain subnetworks. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between network switching rates and the severity of childhood trauma. These findings suggest a potential long-term impact of childhood trauma on brain functional dynamism and its contribution to psychiatric disorders in adulthood.
