Prevalence of Liver Steatosis and Fibrosis Detected by Transient Elastography in Adolescents in the 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

Stefano Ciardullo et al.

Summary: The prevalence of MAFLD and significant fibrosis is alarmingly high among adolescents in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2017-2018. Factors such as body mass index, sex, ethnicity, and hypertension are associated with steatosis, while factors like body mass index and ethnicity are associated with significant fibrosis. Effective noninvasive strategies are urgently needed to differentiate simple steatosis from progressive forms.

High Prevalence of Advanced Liver Fibrosis Assessed by Transient Elastography Among US Adults With Type 2 Diabetes

Stefano Ciardullo et al.

Summary: The prevalence of liver steatosis and fibrosis is high in patients with T2DM from the United States, with obesity being a major risk factor. Screening for these conditions among patients with diabetes is recommended based on the study results.

Hepatic Fibrosis Associates With Multiple Cardiometabolic Disease Risk Factors: The Framingham Heart Study

Michelle T. Long et al.

Summary: In a community-based cohort, hepatic fibrosis defined by VCTE was associated with multiple cardiovascular risk factors (including obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol), even after adjusting for covariates and CAP. Additional longitudinal studies are needed to determine the impact of hepatic fibrosis on incident cardiovascular disease risk factors or events.

Case-finding strategies in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Jerome Boursier et al.

Summary: Diagnosing and managing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients remains challenging, highlighting the importance of strengthening non-invasive detection methods for early diagnosis and improved treatment outcomes. The active participation of general practitioners and physicians managing metabolic disorders is crucial in addressing the issue of evaluating a large number of patients.
