Carcinogenesis: Failure of resolution of inflammation

Anna Fishbein et al.

Summary: Inflammation in the tumor microenvironment is a hallmark of cancer and is recognized as a key characteristic of carcinogens. The failure of resolution of inflammation in cancer is being understood. Eicosanoids play a critical role in regulating inflammation and its resolution, while non-genotoxic mechanisms such as inflammation and oxidative stress promote genotoxicity and contribute to carcinogenesis.
