Cross cultural adaptation, reliability and construct validity of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire in standard Arabic language

Hayat H. Hamzeh et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to adapt the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire into standard Arabic and evaluate the reliability and construct validity of the new tool. The results showed that the Arabic version of the questionnaire had excellent internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity, with high correlation with the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire. The tool is suitable for use with carpal tunnel syndrome patients in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Is it time to revisit the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire? New insights from a Rasch model analysis

Christina Jerosch-Herold et al.

Summary: The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) is a widely used patient-reported outcome measure for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). This study used Rasch model analysis to investigate the measurement properties of the BCTQ, finding that a single total score across all items is not valid. The study suggests treating the Symptom Severity Subscale (SSS) and Functional Status Subscale (FSS) separately and proposes a modified scoring system for the SSS to create a linear measure for future analyses.
