Patient reported outcomes and performance metrics at diagnosis of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis

Devon S. Conway et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the distributions of patient-reported outcomes and the Timed 25-Foot Walk at SPMS diagnosis and describe the evolution of these metrics in patients with SPMS. The research found distinct patterns in measures leading up to SPMS diagnosis and identified factors such as age, gender, disease duration, and disability associated with an increased risk of SPMS diagnosis. Longitudinal monitoring of PROs and performance metrics may help identify those at higher risk of near-term SPMS.

Altered astrocytic function in experimental neuroinflammation and multiple sclerosis

Sofia Pereira das Neves et al.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that affects about 2.5 million people worldwide. There is currently no cure for MS and the available treatments only slow the initial phases of the disease. Disease progression and disability in MS are better correlated with the maintenance of a persistent low-grade inflammation inside the CNS, driven by local glial cells like astrocytes.

Summary: In AF patients, higher levels of IGFBP-7 were strongly associated with CHF hospitalization, and the prognostic information provided by IGFBP-7 was additive to that of NT-proBNP.

Multiple Sclerosis Biomarker Discoveries by Proteomics and Metabolomics Approaches

Ameneh Jafari et al.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder of the central nervous system, and the precise pathogenesis and etiology of this disease are still unknown. Biomarkers are urgently needed for clarifying pathology, monitoring disease progression, and elucidating disease mechanisms.
