Atomization behaviour of a hybrid air-blast-electrostatic atomizer for spray combustion

Summary: An analysis of the atomization region of diesel sprays generated from a hybrid atomizer showed that charge has an influence on droplet and ligament size and number, with an increase in spray specific charge resulting in smaller droplets and ligaments but a higher droplet count. The influence of charge varies with aerodynamic Weber number, with a more significant impact observed at lower Weber numbers. In hybrid mode, a minimum spray specific charge is required for the electric potential to affect the aerodynamically assisted spray.

Low flow rate spray cooling by a flow blurring injector

Summary: Experimental investigation on spray cooling characteristics of a flow blurring injector shows that maximum cooling heat flux ranges from 61 to 193 W/cm(2) depending on various parameters. Formation of fine droplets at higher air flow rates contributes to a 60% improvement in maximum cooling heat flux. The flow blurring injector demonstrates four advantages over previous twin-fluid injectors, achieving the same heat flux with significantly lower liquid consumption rate.
