Bismuth oxychloride-based materials for the removal of organic pollutants in wastewater

Ling Yao et al.

Summary: Different forms of organic compounds are toxic and harmful, leading to issues like eutrophication and odorous water. Photocatalysis is seen as a promising technology to degrade these pollutants into non-toxic inorganic materials under visible light. Bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl) is a potential photocatalyst, but its wide band gap limits its performance. Various methods to enhance its photocatalytic activity have been reviewed, along with the application and future prospects of BiOCl in pollution management.

Photocatalytic activation of C-Br bond on facet-dependent BiOCl with oxygen vacancies

Tingting Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the photocatalytic removal of BDE209 using facet-dependent BiOCl with oxygen vacancies, revealing a faster reaction rate on {001} BiOCl due to abundant oxygen vacancies. The hypothesis of a position-selective multi electrons reduction mechanism was proposed, providing a new perspective on halogenated aromatics activation by inducing oxygen vacancies on specific facets.

Construction of a Bioinspired Hierarchical BiVO4/BiOCl Heterojunction and Its Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity for Phenol Degradation

Qian Su et al.

Summary: The development of a p-n heterojunction using BiVO4 with bioinspired hierarchical structures combined with BiOCl nanoplates demonstrated significantly enhanced photocatalytic efficiency for degrading organic pollutants under visible light irradiation. The hierarchical BiVO4 served as an excellent substrate for the uniform loading of BiOCl nanoplates, leading to improved visible light absorption and effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers in a spatial conductive network framework.

Insight into facet-dependent photocatalytic H2O2 production on BiOCl nanosheets

Yating Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the facet-dependent photocatalytic H2O2 generation activities of BiOCl nanosheets, and found that BiOCl(001) has a higher hydrogen peroxide evolution rate compared to BiOCl(010). Different pathways for H2O2 production on the two facets were identified, with BiOCl(001) mainly generating H2O2 through sequential two step single-electron O-2 reduction.
