GABAergic interneurons in epilepsy: More than a simple change in inhibition

Joseane Righes Mara et al.

Summary: The pathophysiology of epilepsy is historically grounded on the oversimplified imbalance between excitation and inhibition in the brain. However, deficits in GABAergic interneurons are attributed to decreased inhibition, and the concept of hyperexcitability needs to be critically revisited with consideration of the diverse cell functions and sources.

Post-traumatic seizures and antiepileptic therapy as predictors of the functional outcome in patients with traumatic brain injury

Valeria Pingue et al.

Summary: PTS is a common complication of TBI with substantial impact on patient rehabilitation progress. EPTS increases the risk of LPTS, which in turn leads to worse neurological and rehabilitation outcomes. The use of ASM is associated with poorer rehabilitation outcome, regardless of epilepsy onset during treatment.
