A conserved sequence motif bridges two protein kinases for enhanced phosphorylation and nuclear function of a splicing factor

Brandon E. Aubol et al.

Summary: The study identified a conserved binding motif in the large lobe of SRPK1 that interacts with the N terminus of CLK1, stabilizing the SRPK1-CLK1 complex and regulating phosphorylation events. This motif plays a role in promoting CLK1-specific phosphorylation sites, enhancing SR protein diffusion in nuclear speckles, and influencing the alternative splicing of target genes. Overall, CLK1 interacts with SRPK1 to control SR protein phosphorylation levels for subnuclear trafficking and alternative splicing regulation.

The role of hypoxia on Alzheimer's disease-related APP and Tau mRNA formation

Egle Jakubauskiene et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of cellular hypoxia on mRNA splice variant formation from Alzheimer's disease-related Tau and APP genes, revealing that the hypoxic microenvironment affects Tau mRNA splice variant formation but not APP mRNA splice variant formation, and highlighting the role of splicing factor SRSF1 in this process.

Alternative splicing in Alzheimer's disease

Giuseppe Biamonti et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disorder in the elderly, with approximately 20% of people over 80 affected. Recent studies have shown that Alternative Splicing is involved in gene expression reprogramming and splicing abnormalities in AD tissues. While the molecular causes of AD are still poorly understood, therapeutic approaches targeting aberrant AS regulation offer potential new treatments.
