Maternal High Fat Diet Consumption Exaggerates Metabolic Disorders in Mice With Cigarette-Smoking Induced Intrauterine Undernutrition

Taida Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that maternal smoking during pregnancy increased body weight and fat mass in HFD-fed offspring, while offspring exposed to both maternal smoking and HFD showed the highest energy intake and glucose metabolic disorder in adulthood. In addition, postnatal HFD consumption increased body weight and worsened metabolic disorders caused by maternal smoking and maternal smoking combined with HFD.
