Methylmercury-Induced Toxicopathologic Findings in Salivary Glands of Offspring Rats After Gestational and Lactational Exposure

Priscila Cunha Nascimento et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the toxicopathologic findings on salivary glands of offspring after exposure to MeHg, showing histologic abnormalities and damages in the architecture of epithelium and myoepithelial cells. The salivary glands could be a potential target for future studies, especially in children exposed to environmentally relevant doses.

Metabolic and oxidative impairments in human salivary gland cells line exposed to MeHg

Lygia S. Nogueira et al.

Summary: The study revealed that MeHg exposure led to mercury accumulation in human salivary gland cells, with higher doses reducing metabolic response and triggering oxidative stress. Although no lethal effects were observed, the highest dose induced oxidative stress raising questions about long-term cellular damages.
