Default mode network integrity changes contribute to cognitive deficits in subcortical vascular cognitive impairment, no dementia

Qi Qin et al.

Summary: This study investigated white matter microstructural changes in the DMN in VCIND patients and found that the integrity of DMN white matter is significantly impaired in subcortical VCIND patients, which correlates with cognitive dysfunction. This disrupted DMN connectivity could explain attention, language and executive dysfunction, suggesting that DMN white matter integrity may be a neuroimaging marker for VCIND.

Hearing loss impacts gray and white matter across the lifespan: Systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression

Francis A. M. Manno et al.

Summary: Hearing loss, a heterogeneous disorder, is found to impact grey and white matter in nearly every brain region according to MRI studies. Congenital loss decreases grey matter in frontal lobe most, while acquired loss shows significant decreases in both frontal and insula grey matter. Different impacts on hemispheres are observed between congenital and acquired hearing loss.
