High Prevalence of Probable Sarcopenia in a Representative Sample From Colombia: Implications for Geriatrics in Latin America

Miguel Angel Perez-Sousa et al.

Summary: The study found that almost half of older adults in Colombia had probable sarcopenia, defined as weak grip strength. Factors such as physical inactivity, diabetes, arthritis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatism were independently associated with probable sarcopenia. Probable sarcopenia is clinically relevant, and some associated factors are preventable, treatable, and reversible.
