Design of efficient photocatalytic processes for the production of hydrogen from biomass derived substrates

Gianguido Ramis et al.

Summary: The photoreforming of glucose over TiO2 photocatalyst was studied with different photoreactors, focusing on the effect of various reaction conditions. Pressure was found to be particularly significant, decreasing hydrogen evolution rate but improving substrate conversion. Additionally, the photoconversion of levulinic acid was investigated for the first time, with high hydrogen productivity achieved.

Comparative study of photoreforming of glycerol on Pt/TiO2 and CuOx/TiO2 photocatalysts under UV light

Ekaterina A. Kozlova et al.

Summary: Pt/TiO2 and CuOx/TiO2 were synthesized and tested in the photoreforming of glycerol. Pt/TiO2 showed higher activity and stability, while CuOx/TiO2 produced a wider variety of products and a higher percentage of organic products from glycerol. Highest hydrogen evolution rates were 0.55 mmol h(-1) g(-1) for CuOx/TiO2 and 1.35 mmol h(-1) g(-1) for Pt/TiO2.

Insights into the structure and conformation of potato resistant starch (type 2) using asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation coupled with multiple detectors

Wenhui Zhang et al.

Summary: Insight into the structure and conformation characteristics of starch that influence its enzyme susceptibility is important for potential applications. In this study, AF4-MALS-dRI was evaluated for monitoring changes in the structure and conformation of potato starch during enzymatic hydrolysis, providing insights into the molecular-level conformation of potato resistant starch. Results indicated that gelatinization process altered the conformation of potato amylose molecules, potentially accelerating enzymatic hydrolysis. An intermediate with elongated branched conformation was also observed, which may play a role in the digestion properties of potato starch. AF4-MALS-dRI is shown to be a powerful tool for understanding the conformation of PRS.
