Analytical solution of the electro-mechanical flexural coupling between piezoelectric actuators and flexible-spring boundary structure in smart composite plates

Soheil Gohari et al.

Summary: An analytical solution is developed for the electro-mechanical flexural response of smart laminated piezoelectric composite rectangular plates, with flexible-spring boundary conditions at two edges, whilst keeping the other edges free. The method addresses the coupling between piezoelectric actuators and rotational springs, with no need for trial deformation, resulting in higher accuracy compared to conventional methods, and allows flexibility in applied loads. This proposed solution has potential applications in real-life structural systems and was validated against results obtained from Abaqus Finite Element package, showing good agreement.

Energy harvesting in variable stiffness composite piezolaminated plates

Rishabh Shukla et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of curvilinear fibers in a variable stiffness composite laminate (VSCL) bimorph energy harvester, exploring its impact on resonance frequency and extracted power, as well as studying the effects of plate aspect ratio on peak power. The analysis includes modeling the VSCL bimorph energy harvester using first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and validating the curvilinear fiber model by comparing natural frequencies with published results. Power frequency response functions, voltage frequency response functions, and relative tip motion frequency response functions are plotted for a fixed curvilinear fiber orientation.

Cascaded essential nonlinearities for enhanced vibration suppression and energy harvesting

Yang Jin et al.

Summary: This paper explores how to design an integrated system that ensures broadband vibration suppression performance while maximizing energy harvesting. By using a cascaded essentially nonlinear system, it is possible to simultaneously achieve vibration suppression and energy collection.
