Energy poverty through the lens of the energy-environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis

Michail Filippidis et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the complex relationships among economic growth, energy consumption, income inequality, and electricity production using panel data from over 200 countries from 2000 to 2019. The findings support the Energy-Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis and show that an increase in renewable energy consumption can reduce income inequality. Economic growth has different effects on renewable and fossil fuel energy consumption, with a U-shaped curve and inverted U-shaped curve respectively. Stronger economic growth positively affects electricity production from renewable sources and reduces electricity production from coal.

Assessing global energy poverty: An integrated approach

Xiahui Che et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive assessment of global energy poverty and reveals improvements over time, yet significant spatiotemporal variations across countries. Energy availability and affordability are major obstacles in alleviating energy poverty, which aligns with economic levels. Developed countries have lower energy poverty levels compared to developing countries, and the proposed integrated approach enhances the accuracy of energy poverty assessment to aid policymakers in crafting informed decisions and public policies.

Racial disparities in energy poverty in the United States

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that overall racial inequality in residential energy consumption/cost has remained relatively stable over the past 25 years in the U.S., but African-American households are more vulnerable to energy poverty compared to white and Asian households. Surprisingly, the proportion of white households experiencing energy poverty has seen the greatest increase from 1990 to 2015.

The different types of renewable energy finance: A Bibliometric analysis

Luc Elie et al.

Summary: This article surveys academic research on renewable energy finance from 1992 to 2018, revealing that the literature does not fully reflect the importance of direct financing flows and private investments in global renewable energy investment. Most studies focus on market-based policy instruments in developed countries and mature renewable electricity technologies. Dynamic analysis shows that private investment is an emerging subject, indicating significant room for development in the field.
