How to create seismic risk scenarios in historic built environment using rapid data collection and managing

Enrico Quagliarini et al.

Summary: The complex Historic Built Environment is vulnerable to natural disasters, especially earthquakes, which necessitates emergency planning considering the effects on the environment and exposed populations. A sustainable and replicable framework has been proposed to help planners access reliable data on seismic risks for effective risk assessment and emergency planning actions.

Multihazards Scenario Generator: A Network-Based Simulation of Natural Disasters

Alexandre Dunant et al.

Summary: This article presents a framework for generating and modeling the complex impacts of multihazard scenarios using graph theory and networks. The method combines maximal hazard footprints and exposed nodes to create a hazard network, and iterative simulation is used to provide an overall compounded impact. The outputs of the method can study distributional ranges of multihazard impacts.

Flexible Workflow for Determining Critical Hazard and Exposure Scenarios for Assessing SLODs Risk in Urban Built Environments

Juan Diego Blanco Cadena et al.

Summary: The study focuses on identifying key input scenarios for future human behavior simulation activities in urban built environments, particularly in relation to slow-onset disasters like air pollution and heatwaves. By combining environmental conditions, exposure peaks, and remote data collection, the methodology aims to support decision-makers in risk assessment by defining effective risk-mitigation solutions.

How urban layout and pedestrian evacuation behaviours can influence flood risk assessment in riverine historic built environments

Gabriele Bernardini et al.

Summary: This study compares how including or excluding pedestrian evacuation behaviors can affect flood risk assessment and emergency strategies evaluation in riverine historic built environments. Results show that considering or not considering pedestrian evacuation behaviors have similar trends on risk indexes at the macroscale, but differences exist at the microscale. Emergency strategies such as sheltering can significantly decrease risk for the whole built environment compared to leaving the flood-affected area.

Modeling urban intersection form: Measurements, patterns, and distributions

Jun Cao et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new method for modeling urban intersection form, classifying intersections into eight types based on the analysis of 844 intersections in the Old City of Nanjing, China. This research suggests that intersections can be viewed as volumetric and integral spatial units of urban form, calling for more attention from urban designers and architects in shaping the built environment.
