Combining Genetic and Multidimensional Analyses to Identify Interpretive Traits Related to Water Shortage Tolerance as an Indirect Selection Tool for Detecting Genotypes of Drought Tolerance in Wheat Breeding

Ibrahim Al-Ashkar et al.

Summary: Water shortages have direct adverse effects on wheat productivity worldwide. Using high-throughput tools and genetic parameters, researchers identified key interpretative traits such as canopy temperature, relative water content, green leaf area, and leaf area index, which can improve genetic gain for yield in water-stressed environments. It was found that these four interpretive traits play a crucial role in enhancing wheat productivity under water shortage conditions.
