Free partition functions and an averaged holographic duality

Nima Afkhami-Jeddi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the torus partition functions of free bosonic CFTs in two dimensions, showing that integrating over Narain moduli defines an ensemble-averaged free CFT and the averaged partition function can be reinterpreted as a sum over topologies in three dimensions. This leads to the conjecture that an averaged free CFT in two dimensions is holographically dual to an exotic theory of three-dimensional gravity with U(1)(c)xU(1)(c) symmetry and a composite boundary graviton. Additionally, general constraints on the spectral gap of free CFTs are obtained for small central charge c, Narain compactifications with a large gap are constructed, and an analytic bootstrap functional corresponding to a single self-dual boson is found using the spinning modular bootstrap.

The disk partition function in string theory

Lorenz Eberhardt et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the disk partition function of open strings, addressing the subtle issue arising from the residual gauge group PSL(2, R). Various methods demonstrate that PSL(2, R) effectively behaves like a group with finite negative volume in the path integral, leading to a simple prescription for computation. The findings are then applied to offer a straightforward rederivation of D-brane tensions.

Matrix integrals & finite holography

Dionysios Anninos et al.

Summary: The conjectured duality between multicritical matrix integrals (MMI) and a series of non-unitary minimal models was explored, matching critical exponents and revealing novel combinatorial expressions. The finiteness of the continuum theory was elaborated with consideration of BRST cohomology and supported by matrix integrals.
