Identification and characterization of NRT gene family reveals their critical response to nitrate regulation during adventitious root formation and development in apple rootstock

Muhammad Mobeen Tahir et al.

Summary: The study systematically analyzed 84 nitrate transporters (NRTs) in the apple genome, identifying three subfamilies. It was found that 28.1 mM/L of nitrate was the optimal level for adventitious root formation and development in apple rootstock. MdNRT2.1 gene played a significant role in response to nitrate availability and overexpression of this gene in tobacco resulted in increased root growth.
