Summary: In this study, two potential functional Bt receptors, SfABCC2 and SfABCC3, were created in the fall armyworm using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing system, showing that SfABCC2 plays a major role in the toxicity of Cry1Fa and Cry1Ab toxins. Additionally, the knockout of SfABCC2 or SfABCC3 increased susceptibility to abamectin and spinosad insecticides.

Summary: Strategies such as conventional breeding and transgenic technology are employed to reduce insect damage in crop production. In this study, cultivated, Bt-transgenic, and wild rice were treated with brown plant hopper, revealing different responses in terms of DEGs and DAPs. Wild rice and Bt-transgenic rice showed similar transcriptomic and proteomic responses to herbivory, while cultivated rice lacked sufficient pathways for response. Crop domestication weakened plant response to herbivory, while the insertion of Bt gene may enhance it. Growing environment also plays a crucial role in regulating gene networks related to plant response to herbivory.
