Cell viability assay as a tool to study activity and inhibition of hepatitis C p7 channels

Ulrike Breitinger et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of inhibitors on recombinant HCV p7 channels of different genotypes and established a cell viability assay as a rapid and cost-efficient technique to assess viroporin activity for potential antiviral drug development. Hexamethylene amiloride (HMA) was found to be the most potent inhibitor of p7 activity, while rimantadine showed activity against p7 of all genotypes and alkyl-chain iminosugars were genotype-specific in their activity against p7.
