Concentration of heavy metals in street dust: an implication of using different geochemical background data in estimating the level of heavy metal pollution

Sylwia Dytlow et al.

Summary: This study in Warsaw, Poland used different geochemical backgrounds to establish the level of heavy metal pollution in street dust, demonstrating that the choice of background values significantly impacts the assessment of pollution levels. The study found that indicators calculated based on various backgrounds can affect the detection of pollution sources and provide a more realistic reflection of pollution levels.

Characteristics, emission sources and health risk assessment of trace elements in size-segregated aerosols during haze and non-haze periods at Ningbo, China

Liangping Long et al.

Summary: In this study, trace elements in airborne particles in an urban area of Ningbo city during haze and non-haze periods were characterized. The main sources of trace elements were identified as traffic emissions, coal combustion, biomass burning, soil dust, and industry emissions. The deposition fractions of elements varied between fine and coarse particles, and the carcinogenic risk of trace elements significantly increased during haze days.

Environmental and human health risk of heavy metals in atmospheric particulate matter (PM10) around gas flaring vicinity in Bayelsa State, Nigeria

Stephen Anayo Uzoekwe et al.

Summary: Exposure to elevated concentrations of heavy metal micro-pollutants is a serious environmental issue. The study evaluated the risks of heavy metals in atmospheric particulate matter around gas flaring vicinity in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The presence of heavy metals in atmospheric PM10 within the study area poses no adverse health effects on inhabitants within the considered age bracket.
