Flow alteration by diversion hydropower in tributaries to the Salween river: a comparative analysis of two streamflow prediction methodologies

M. H. Alipour et al.

Summary: A multi-model approach was used to study the impact of small diversion hydropower stations on long-term flow records of ungauged rivers. Two flow prediction models, catchment similarity model and the multi-criteria Streamflow Prediction under Extreme Data-scarcity (SPED) model, were applied. The results showed that flow signatures were substantially altered by diversion hydropower, and the flow predictions generated by the SPED model were more accurate. While the direction of flow alteration was consistent regardless of the model choice, the severity of alteration was consistently greater in the analysis of flows simulated by the SPED model. Therefore, management actions such as establishing flow targets should be based on flow records generated by models like SPED.

Development and assessment of rainwater harvesting suitability map using analytical hierarchy process, GIS and RS techniques

Khaled S. Balkhair et al.

Summary: The study aims to develop a suitability map of rainwater harvesting sites for a basin in Saudi Arabia, using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to identify and assign weights to criteria. Results showed that excellent and good sites covered about 40.6% of the total available sites, with curve number, slope, rainfall, and soil being the most influential criteria.
