Advances in Land Surface Modelling

Summary: Land surface models have evolved from being used for weather and climate prediction to becoming a critical tool for informing policy on land-use and water-use management. The importance of distinguishing between advances in science within the modeling components and how to represent their interaction has been highlighted in the paper. As the complexity of the system increases, this aspect of modeling will become an increasingly important issue.
