Effects of pulling speed on structural performance of L-shaped pultruded profiles

Alexander Vedernikov et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the influence of pulling speed on the structural characteristics of pultruded glass fiber/epoxy-vinyl resin composite profiles. The results showed that an increase in pulling speed led to an increase in spring-in angle, affecting the mechanical properties of the profiles. Profiles produced at different pulling speeds exhibited differences in cracking and mechanical characteristics.

A simulation framework for predicting process-induced distortions for precise manufacturing of aerospace thermoset composites

Neoklis Traiforos et al.

Summary: The study compares the performance of the CHILE model and a linear viscoelastic material model in predicting process induced distortions in aerospace composite frames. By integrating cure kinetics model, chemical shrinkage model, and using a generalized Maxwell model to model the resin's viscoelastic behavior, it is shown that the viscoelastic model more accurately predicts distortions.

Material characterization of a pultrusion specific and highly reactive polyurethane resin system: Elastic modulus, rheology, and reaction kinetics

Onur Yuksel et al.

Summary: This study characterized the chemical behavior, cure kinetics, and viscosity evolution of a polyurethane resin system for pultrusion. The gelation point was estimated from the cross-over point of storage and loss modulus curves, and the corresponding cure degree was determined using a cure kinetics model. DMA was used to measure the elastic modulus and glass transition temperature of fully and partially cured samples. A five-step cure hardening model was well fitted to a wide range of cure degree values after gelation. These material models were then applied to a case study of a typical pultrusion process to study the effects of pulling speed on material property evolution.

Mohammad Shekarchi et al.

Summary: The study explored the use of timber as a filler material for steel and pultruded GFRP tube elements, finding that timber-filled tubes could significantly improve compressive strength and stiffness. Timber-filled steel tubes and hollow steel tubes exhibited better performance at elevated temperatures, while timber-filled pultruded GFRP tubes experienced significant strength and stiffness loss beyond resin transition and decomposition temperatures.
