Potential Gravitational Wave Signatures of Quantum Gravity

Ivan Agullo et al.

Summary: The study indicates that gravitational wave astronomy can provide insights into the quantum aspects of black holes, including the effects of black hole area discretization on the gravitational wave signal from merging black holes and the importance of black hole rotation in detecting quantum effects. Gravitational wave echoes and suppressed tidal heating are new physics phenomena that can be observed in future detectors.

Conformal Weyl gravity via two stages of quasinormal ringing and late-time behavior

R. A. Konoplya

Summary: The black hole solution in conformal Weyl gravity describes the evolution of gravitational field in different stages including Schwarzschild-like ringing, effective dark matter ringing, and de Sitter phase. The late-time behavior of the electromagnetic field is also different, as exponential tails appear even without the effective de Sitter term.

Quasinormal modes and self-adjoint extensions of the Schrodinger operator

Julio C. Fabris et al.

Summary: This study revisits the analytical continuation method used to compute quasinormal modes and frequencies of a potential barrier V. In an exactly soluble problem, though the associated Schrodinger operator lacks self-adjointness, it still has self-adjoint extensions. However, the eigenstates corresponding to the analytically continued QNM do not belong to any self-adjoint extension domain.

Asymptotical quasinormal mode spectrum for piecewise approximate effective potential

Wei-Liang Qian et al.

Summary: The black hole quasinormal modes resulting from a piecewise approximate potential are drastically different from those of the original black hole metric, with the spectrum stretching out along the real axis instead of lining up parallel to the imaginary axis. Even a slight discontinuity in the effective potential significantly modifies the asymptotic behavior of the quasinormal modes, as supported by analytical derivations. Additionally, the astrophysical implications of these findings are discussed.
