Mediterranean diet adherence amongst adolescents in North Lebanon: the role of skipping meals, meals with the family, physical activity and physical well-being

Rosy N. Mitri et al.

Summary: The Mediterranean diet is associated with a reduction in metabolic disorders including cancers, but only a small percentage of adolescents in North Lebanon adhere to it. Factors such as high level of physical activity, family meal consumption, and good physical well-being are correlated with better diet quality in Lebanese adolescents. Nutrition intervention programs and public health policies are needed to improve the diet quality among this population.

Life-course leisure-time physical activity trajectories in relation to health-related behaviors in adulthood: the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns study

Irinja Lounassalo et al.

Summary: The study found that both consistently high levels of leisure-time physical activity and an increasing tendency to engage in physical activity after childhood/adolescence were associated with healthier diet and lower smoking frequency in both genders, with women having fewer sleep difficulties and increasingly active men having lower screen time. Inactivity and low activity were associated with the accumulation of several unhealthy behaviors in adulthood, with stronger associations observed in women.

Lower parental socioeconomic status in childhood and adolescence predicts unhealthy health behaviour patterns in adolescence in Northern Finland

Kaisa Marttila-Tornio et al.

Summary: The study found that father's low and medium education in childhood predicted greater likelihood of engaging in unhealthy behaviour patterns for boys, while mother's low or medium education and fathers' unemployment predicted the same for girls. Having a stay-at-home mother in childhood (and for boys also in adolescence) was a protective factor against unhealthy health behavior patterns for both genders.
