Ensuring sustainable development of urban public transport: A case study of the trolleybus system in Gdynia and Sopot (Poland)

Marcin Wolek et al.

Summary: The study examines the influence factors on the development of trolleybus systems based on the case study of Polish cities. The analysis of in-motion charging technology provides a new framework for trolleybus development. Using an economic model, the study evaluates the total lifecycle costs of trolleybuses and finds that trolleybus transport becomes economically efficient after considering external costs.

Varying the Energy Mix in the EU-28 and in Poland as a Step towards Sustainable Development

Wiktoria Sobczyk et al.

Summary: The demand for clean energy is a crucial global issue that requires local actions to implement global ideas. Analyzing eight indicators for the EU-28 and Poland between 2010 and 2018, it was found that the progress in modifying the energy mix towards sustainable development goals showed improvement in both regions, with the EU-28 showing a higher aggregated indicator compared to Poland. Despite Poland's main reliance on coal and lignite, the noticeable increase in renewable energy sources, including biomass, gives hope for progress towards sustainability and improved environmental standards.

The Economic Effects of Electromobility in Sustainable Urban Public Transport

Oliwia Pietrzak et al.

Summary: The economic benefits of implementing zero-emission buses in urban transport are limited by the current energy mix structure of the country, which may lead to increased emissions of SO2 and CO2. Achieving full effects in electromobility in a country depends on diversifying power generation sources and increasing the share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES).

Sustainable Use of the Catenary by Trolleybuses with Auxiliary Power Sources on the Example of Gdynia

Mikolaj Bartlomiejczyk et al.

Summary: The current developments in onboard power source technology, particularly traction batteries, offer new potential for trolleybus transport. Introducing trolleybuses with onboard batteries can expand zero-emissions transport networks in areas with limited power supply and low population density, improving transport efficiency and accessibility to environmentally friendly public transportation for local residents.

Techno-Economic Analysis and Environmental Impact of Electric Buses

Nurizyan Khairiah Yusof et al.

Summary: Electric buses (EB) are found to be significantly more expensive than diesel buses (DB) in the context of Brunei, and government interventions such as subsidies, taxes, and increasing diesel prices are necessary to promote their deployment. To enhance environmental benefits, improving electric power generation efficiency, exploring renewable energy sources, and adopting carbon capture technology are important considerations.
