Relationship between Sleep Problems and Self-Injury: A Systematic Review

Habibolah Khazaie et al.

Summary: Sleep problems such as short sleep duration, sleep disturbances, and poor sleep quality are associated with non-suicidal self-injury. Adolescents and young adults with sleep disruptions are at higher risk of non-suicidal self-injury. Interventions to improve sleep quality and duration may decrease the risk of non-suicidal self-injury.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Improves Sleep Quality, Experiential Avoidance, and Emotion Regulation in Individuals with Insomnia-Results from a Randomized Interventional Study

Ali Zakiei et al.

Summary: Insomnia is a common problem that can be treated through medication therapies and cognitive-behavioral interventions. This study found that acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) can improve sleep quality, dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes towards sleep, emotion regulation, and experiential avoidance in individuals with insomnia compared to a control condition. Improvements in experiential avoidance were related to positive changes in sleep and cognitive-emotional processing, with lasting effects observed up to 12 weeks later.
