Intrinsic memristive mechanisms in 2D layered materials for high-performance memory

Hao Li et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional layered materials like graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides show promise in developing high-density low-power next-generation memory through intrinsic memristive mechanisms such as polarization switching and resistive switching. These mechanisms have high potential for ferroelectric random access memory and in-memory computing, but also come with challenges that require futuristic insight and research.

Ferroelectric field effect transistors: Progress and perspective

Jae Young Kim et al.

Summary: Ferroelectric field effect transistors (FeFETs) have emerged as devices with great potential as synaptic devices for neuromorphic implementation and for achieving high integration as one-transistor (1T). Various materials such as Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O-3, polyvinylidene fluoride, HZO, and two-dimensional materials are emphasized in FeFETs to explore their exotic performances. Limitations of current device performance and the potential of these materials are also discussed.

Few-layer tin sulfide (SnS): Controlled synthesis, thickness dependent vibrational properties, and ferroelectricity

P. Sutter et al.

Summary: Group IV monochalcogenides like SnS are attracting increasing interest for their anisotropic optoelectronics and multiferroicity properties. Challenges in exfoliation and synthesis of few-layer crystals are addressed by synthesizing SnS on SnS2 van der Waals substrates, consistently producing few-layer flakes. Advanced techniques like Raman spectroscopy and lateral piezoresponse force microscopy provide comprehensive insights into the vibrational properties and domain structures of SnS in the few-layer regime. These results establish a basis for further studies and applications of Group IV monochalcogenides in the few-layer regime.

Emerging van der Waals ferroelectrics: Unique properties and novel devices

Fei Xue et al.

Summary: In recent decades, emerging van der Waals layered ferroelectrics have shown unique ferroelectric physics by assembling strong covalent-bonded polar or non-polar monolayers through weak vdW forces. These materials not only exhibit special ferroelectric properties in experiments, but also intrinsically reduce depolarized instability at the atomic level.
