The association of Epstein-Barr virus infection with CXCR3+ B-cell development in multiple sclerosis: impact of immunotherapies

Jamie van Langelaar et al.

Summary: The study found that EBV infection in B cells can lead to the preferential infiltration of CXCR3(+) B cells into the central nervous system in MS patients. Research on transplant recipients and MS patients treated with natalizumab indicated that EBV infection enhances antibody production and brain-homing B cell subsets.

Absence of B Cells in Brainstem and White Matter Lesions Associates With Less Severe Disease and Absence of Oligoclonal Bands in MS

Nina L. Fransen et al.

Summary: The absence of B cells in brainstem and white matter lesions in advanced multiple sclerosis cases is associated with longer disease duration, less frequent secondary progressive MS, lower proportion of mixed active/inactive lesions, and less perivascular T-cell clustering. Additionally, lower CSF IgG ratio and more frequent absence of OCBs were noted.
