Copper circuits fabricated on flexible polymer substrates by a high repetition rate femtosecond laser-induced selective local reduction of copper oxide nanoparticles

Yajun Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, copper circuits were successfully fabricated on flexible polyimide substrates using high repetition rate femtosecond laser technology. By optimizing laser processing parameters, the quality of the copper circuits was significantly improved in terms of line width and electrical resistivity. It was found that the thermochemical reduction reaction induced by high repetition rate femtosecond laser pulses played a crucial role in the formation of copper circuits.

Fs-laser based hybrid micromachining for polymer micro-opto electrical systems

Gian-Luca Roth et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the femtosecond laser direct writing of electrically conducive copper structures on transparent cyclic olefin copolymer based planar optical chips. The process involves laser-induced reduction of CuO nanoparticles in a water-soluble resin. Ultra-short laser pulses enable a hybrid micromachining approach for simultaneous ablation of polymer substrates and fabrication of copper patterns, showing potential for generating micro-opto-electromechanical polymer structures for various sensing applications.
